Facelift

What is a Facelift?

A Facelift restores the contour of your face and neck to produce a more youthful appearance. A facelift involves an incision along your hairline, and around the ear, which allows your underlying facial muscle tissue to be tightened, and any excess skin and fat removed.

In the past, this type of facial surgery involved pulling back the skin of the face and neck and then removing the excess skin. The result of this technique was a too tight, ‘windswept’ look. This technique also did not ‘lift’ the face; it simply pulled it back and to the side which created a flatter, more two dimensional appearance. Instead, the contemporary techniques at Eden Institute deliver a refreshed and rejuvenated look, absent of obvious signs that you had a facelift.

Types of Facelift Surgery

Igorgeous offers the following facial surgery procedures:

  • Traditional Facelift Surgery – where the skin is elevated and tightened.
  • The SMAS Facelift – The SMAS (superficial musculoaponeurotic system) is one of the most important structures in facial support. In a SMAS Facelift the underlying muscles and tissues are tightened to lift the facial structures, the neck and the brow, and excess skin is removed. We tends to prefer using the SMAS Facelift because it targets all the layers of the face, neck and brow, and not just the skin. While a SMAS Facelift does require an overnight hospital stay, the results will be longer-lasting due to the underlying structural facial rejuvenation.

Other Facial Surgery Procedures

These procedures can also be combined with Neck Lift, Brow Lift or Eyelid Surgery, as well as Laser Resurfacing, Microdermabrasion, Medical-grade Peels, Cosmetic Injections, Wrinkle Relaxer Injections, Lip Enhancement Treatments and Wrinkle Filler Injections (Dermal Fillers).

Igorgeous practice as a professional surgeon takes inspiration from the concept of aesthetic facial balancing. This refers to adopting a holistic approach in combining surgical and non-surgical techniques to facial rejuvenation. It also applies to Facelift Surgery being tailored to each patient and not being a specific product. Aesthetic facial balancing epitomises the combination of skills and techniques that uses to help restore balance to the face and ensure optimal aesthetic outcomes are achieved.

What is the recovery time?

Swelling and bruising will settle within 1 to 3 weeks, with the best results seen in 1 to 2 months. Most scarring will refine over the next year.

How long do I have to stay in Clinic?

Normally your hospital stay lasts 1 night, after which time you should be up and about. You should rest for about a week afterwards.

How long does a facelift take?

We usually takes around 3 to 5 hours to conduct a full facelift. The procedure is conducted under general anaesthetic in a hospital.

How much does a facelift cost?

The cost will depend on the method and extent of the face lift but prices start at $17 00 .

Once We has had the opportunity to meet with you and discuss your case, we will supply a full estimate of fees for your proposed surgery, so that you know all your facts and figures – medical and financial – before you make your decision.

How long does a facelift last?

You don’t lose the benefit of facial surgery. Those benefits, once gained, are never lost.

However, we cannot predict how you will age in the future. Many factors beyond the plastic surgeon’s control affect this including diet, nutrition, lifestyle factors such as stress and pollution, UV damage and genetics.

What sort of scarring can I expect?

To minimise scarring, incisions are made along the hairline and in the creases in front of, and behind your ears. We personalize each facelift, so your scar lines may be placed differently compared to those of another person. We will always use his specialist expertise to ensure you obtain the best possible scars for your face’s contours and features.

Will it be obvious to people that I have had a SMAS facelift?

At the Igorgeous, all our surgical and non-surgical services are about giving you a natural look whilst enhancing your features. We performs his SMAS Facelift with the aim of making you look like you have just returned from a relaxing holiday.

Instead of noticing you have had a facelift, people may instead notice how refreshed and rejuvenated you look. View the Before & After Gallery.

Ultimately, it depends on your wishes and requested outcome. Facelift Surgery can be modified. We particularly likes to see his facelift as providing a more youthful appearance. Discussion between us and yourself is vital to planning your facial surgery. We likes to sit with you in front of a mirror, and together with your input, he will show you what your expected outcome would be like.

When is the right time for a facelift?

The decision to have Facelift Surgery is highly personal and there is no set age limit. Dr Edinburg will be able to discuss your personal needs and desires to help you make your decision. Partial Facelifts or Isolated Neck Lift Surgery may be more appropriate for younger patients with lesser degrees of ageing. Ultimately, the prospective patient needs to look at their face and decide what bothers them before going to the consultation with the plastic surgeon. Younger patients are now undergoing more minimally-invasive facelift procedures (e.g. Mini Facelift or Short-Scar Facelift) to slow the ageing process. The advantage of undergoing facial surgery at a younger age is that it lasts longer because the facial structures lifted are stronger, tends to be less invasive, less complex and usually involves less downtime. However, it is often appropriate for people in their 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th decades to have a facelift instead of a mini facelift.

Will a facelift get rid of my wrinkles?

Deeper wrinkles created by loose skin and muscles will improve after a facelift but the finer superficial wrinkles may require an adjunctive Laser Skin Resurfacing procedure to reduce wrinkles and rejuvenate skin texture, especially around the mouth and under the eyes.

Do I need a facelift?

The best candidate for a Facelift Surgery is a person whose facial skin has sagged and who has sagging of the jowls and neck. This may be a result of ageing in general or if you’ve experienced significant weight loss, either naturally or via Bariatric/Gastric Bypass Surgery. Facelift Surgery can help to restore a more firm-looking complexion by tightening the loose, draping skin and underlying structures that have all been affected. You are a good candidate for Facelift Surgery if your weight is stable, you are medically cleared for surgery, and you do not smoke. You should have a positive outlook and have realistic goals for improvement in appearance.
