Female Aesthetic Genital Surgery (Labiaplasty)
In recent years there has been an increase in demand for Aesthetic Genital Surgery, known as Labiaplasty.
Labiaplasty is a surgical procedure that changes the size or shape of the labia minora. The labia minora are also known as the inner lips of the vagina, situated between the outer labia and the vaginal opening. Labiaplasty aims to reduce the labia or to correct asymmetry by reshaping long and/or uneven labia.
The ideal genital appearance has symmetrical labia minora (inner lips) that do not protrude beyond the labia majora (outer lips), and full labia majora without excess skin (not overly fatty and not bulging when wearing tight clothing). In addition, the mons pubis (the protruding area below the bikini line) should not protrude through in clothing.
The Labiaplasty procedure usually involves trimming the protruding labia along the entire labial length, however, other techniques may be used.
These types of female genital plastic surgery are highly specific to each patient. We recognise the sensitivity of the patient’s concerns, and tread gently with each person. Each surgery proposed needs to be specifically tailored, and all these surgeries can be modified by us as appropriate. Careful assessment and discussion with each patient is essential.
